Moving

The libertarian lifter is moving. I've redirected my personal domain to a new wordpress.com account. Wordpress allows for the addition of pages, which is what I wanted to do with my website.

I'll be working on moving posts over in the next few days, but for now, all new material will be posted here:

Not much to say

Sorry for the gaps in posts, haven't had much to say or much time to say it. I do have a lesson for President Obama on how "those who are more fortunate" behave, and maybe how most of them got that way, and why increasing taxes by lowing deductions for charitible contributions will indeed reduce the amount of contributions. But then, that's what he wants.

Anyway.

I'm thinking I might revamp my blog/website thing. I has a website, but I havent' been updating it. I looked at wordpress, and it looks like I could build something with a blog and articles/information, which is kinda what I'd like to do. Make a project of it, or something.

Still figuring out twitter, but I'm there if you are interested.

Training updates will be back soon.

Social networks are public!

I'm finding I get a kick out of twitter. Mostly due to who I follow, not so much what I post, although I'm learning how to add value to all the noise.

What's funny is how some people don't understand that twitter is public. Really. Think before you post.

I know I've tried to be very careful about identification. I don't hide who I am, so if my boss wants to find me in the interweb, he can. But when discussing politics, or, frankly, any controversial issue, I keep it clear that it's MY personal comments, that no way reflect my employer. I don't identify my employer on twitter or on my blog (although if you look hard enough, you can find out).

I know my boss can see my Facebook page, and I've got a website where the URL is my name. I'm not going to trash my company, make them look bad, or discuss anything I don't want them to know on any internet medium other than secure email.

Seriously. How can anyone not get this?

1000th post

1000 posts in a little over 4 years. How about that.

As I'm getting older, I'm becoming more resolved that what I say here (or anywhere else) really doesn't matter that much. I'm not going to change anyone's mind. I had this realization with lifting about a year ago, when I was spending way too much time trying to teach people who didn't want to learn about training. The power of the Bro is strong, and I can not overcome it. Same is true with the power of the majority in this country.

People think they have the right, through the government, to take other peoples' stuff and give that stuff to the more deserving. That's not going to change, we are too far down the road. So I have to focus on doing the best I can, and defend my rights to the best of my ability, realizing, of course, I can't fight the state. I'll get some satisfaction when they finally get what they want, and someone in the federal government is deciding they can't have that joint replacement because they don't deserve it. Hopefully I'll be able to afford to outside the system, then, assuming that's legal.

I'll keep doing good things, keep helping where I can, and work hard so I can get to the point I don't have to anymore.

Sorry

I had to commute back and forth to Philly every day this week, so I only had time to drive, work, eat, and sleep.

I'm reading up on what's happening, and may have something to say later today or tomorrow.

Oh - government spending on social programs doesn't stimulate the economy. I hope y'all wake up and call your Senators before this mess passes.

Lots of gaps in posts, again.

Where do they find the expert analyst to cover Olympic Badmiton?

Awesome

Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest, 2008

I think the runner up should have won:
"Hmm . . ." thought Abigail as she gazed languidly from the veranda past the bright white patio to the cerulean sea beyond, where dolphins played and seagulls sang, where splashing surf sounded like the tintinnabulation of a thousand tiny bells, where great gray whales bellowed and the sunlight sparkled off the myriad of sequins on the flyfish's bow ties, "time to get my meds checked."

Another good one, the Romance winner:
Bill swore the affair had ended, but Louise knew he was lying, after discovering Tupperware containers under the seat of his car, which were not the off-brand containers that she bought to save money, but authentic, burpable, lidded Tupperware; and she knew he would see that woman again, because unlike the flimsy, fake containers that should always be recycled responsibly, real Tupperware must be returned to its rightful owner.

Another one:
The day started out as uneventfully as any other, and continued thus to midday and from there it was nothing at all to ease into an evening of numbing, undiluted monotony that survived unmarred by even the least act of momentary peculiarity-in fact, let's skip that day altogether and start with the day after.

Friday night dinner and a movie

Went to Tsunami last night with neighbors D and R (D having just returned from a long out of state trip).

I had the Metropolitan Roll, Petite Filet, and Creme Brulee. All very good, but not spectacular. The environment was very cool, very casual, a fun place to grab a bite. We'll certainly return.

Then went to the Little Italy Friday night movie, Hairspray (the remake). Travolta really steals the show (gotta negotiate the pleats, hon). Not high art, but a nice way to spend a couple of hours having a couple of glasses of wine on a nice night.

Been busy otherwise (work, mostly). Blogging lately has taken a back seat, but I'll continue to make an effort to update.

RIP Randy Pausch

Randy Pausch died this morning. I'm not sure he set out to have as big an impact as he did; he reminded me how important my time is.

Gift

Some bloggers occasionally ask for money, or have a tip jar, or even post their Amazon wish list.

I'm lucky enough to do this for fun (plus, not many people read this blog), I don't want anything back. So instead, I ask that if you have some spare buckaroos and you love animals, share some of them.

I got the best gift, ever, when I adopted my dog from the Baltimore SPCA. People who support local SPCAs and the ASPCA are part of the reason I got such a gift. My dog was abused and abandoned before the SPCA got her, and I can't imagine why.

If that's not enough, this should be:

Shelby says "thanks." (Well, if she spoke English that's what she would say, I'm sure. Either that or "I'm hungry, asshole.")

Financial Blogs

I noticed looking about the internet today there aren't many blogs regarding personal finance, building wealth, or anything like that.

I might have something to offer there. Might be an interesting project, and maybe something could come of it. Just need to make the time.

Quick update

If you are ever wondering if I'm really busy with work, just watch my posting breaks.

I was in Atlanta working on a project Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday this week, back catching up on Thursday, and meeting with a vendor on Friday in NJ, so not much internets time.

If you are following my training log, you'll note I haven't trained for a couple of weeks. I slipped off a curb and twisted my knee, and had to give it a little time. I'm back at it tomorrow. I might lift in a meet in August.

Othrewise, things be great. I've heard lots of great news stories (my favorite is the aluminum bat lawsuit). I'm planning on having a great weekend getting some stuff done around the house, and then enjoying it. There's not much better than feeling like you are on vacation in your own home.

The Post Apocalyptic Workout

I've internet known Nina (of The Slack and TheSlackDaily) for years. She probably doesn't remember me, but we corresponded regularly via the newsgroup misc.fitness.weights many years ago.

(Remember the Great Doughnut Jihad?)

Anyway, she's got a fantastic new blog/project called The Post Apicalyptic Workout, wherin she prepares for the end of the world, and the zombies who (that?) will inhabit it.

Great stuff, and a great way to orgainize goals.
